The following baggage rules apply when traveling on Icelandair flights. Other baggage rules may apply if your travel includes more than one airline. Please study the baggage rules of our codeshare and interline partners and the baggage information in your ticket. Click here for additional information.

The bag numbers and weights depend on your cabin type. You are allowed to check in at least one bag without extra cost, no matter what your cabin type.

The tables below list the number of bags which you will be able to check in as part of your baggage allowance. Note that you can also find your checked baggage allowance on your ticket or other travel document.

The maximum weight per bag is 32kg (70lbs). If you have baggage which is over this limit or exceeds the baggage allowance, Icelandair Cargo may be the answer you are looking for. Please contact Icelandair Cargo for details.

What is the airline's liability and how can I make a claim?
If any of your checked baggage is missing or damaged on arrival at your destination airport, please report this to an Icelandair staff member or representative immediately. Any claims must be submitted in writing within seven days. As the carrier's liability for baggage loss, delay or damage is limited, passengers are advised to obtain private travel insurance. All claims are subject to proof of damage.

What should I not include in my checked baggage?
In baggage which you are going to check in, you are advised not to include any fragile or perishable items, money, keys, jewellery, electronic equipment, precious metals or silverware, negotiable instruments or securities, business documents, valuable articles, medication or medical papers, passports or other identification documents or samples.

Passengers travelling to/from the United States are advised to take note of the TSA (US Transportation Security Administration) restrictions on locking checked-in baggage. Also, lighters and matches are now entirely prohibited on flights to and from the USA, both in checked baggage and as carry-on items. Full details can be found on the TSA website.

As a general rule, airline carriers reserve the right to refuse the carriage of more than the baggage allowance on the same flight as the passenger. It is therefore of great importance that the carrier is advised in advance of baggage which is in excess of the allowance in order to allow for special arrangements, such as the booking of necessary space on other aircraft as cargo.
