On Tuesday June 28, 2011, Thorsteinn Egilsson, Icelandair's General Manager for The Americas was pleased to visit The Children's Hospital Boston and present a check for $2,535 on behalf of Icelandair. The money came from the funds raised at Icelandair's Last Bostonian Skating event held in March this year and will be allocated to the Hospital’s Center for Families.

The center for Families is responsible providing information and resources for patients and families and helps arrange travel and lodging, whether it is for a medical treatment or for a sick child and family to take the trip of their dreams.

Icelandair in cooperation with The Special Children Travel Fund also presented the Hospital with tickets for a family of four to fly on Icelandair to Iceland and will be sponsoring hotel, tours and land arrangements for a special family to be selected by the hospital.

In 2007 Icelandair and The Special Children Travel Fund arranged a trip to Iceland for 14 patients, family members and medical staff. "Everyone had such an amazing trip and loved Iceland so much; the memories that were made will live forever and we look forward to sending another family to Iceland again this year," said Cecilia Matos, Children’s Hospital Boston Center for Families.

"The Last Bostonian Skating was an uplifting community event that was able to bring families together and help raise awareness and money for a very special cause. It is impressive to see all that The Children’s Hospital Boston does for their patients and families. We are pleased to supporting such a worthy cause and look forward to working closely with them for many years to come," said Egilsson.

Plans for the Second Annual Last Bostonian Skating are underway and the proceeds will continue to support The Children’s Hospital Boston.
