Itinerary

Departure Day:
Depart from North America on evening flight (all gateways) or afternoon flight (Boston or New York).
Complimentary  soft drinks and in-seat entertainment system during flight. Meals, headsets and blankets available for purchase or provide your own.

Day 1 Arrival Day
:
After going through customs, head to the Fly Bus waiting at the curb outside the airport. Give your Fly Bus transfer (included in documents) to driver or attendant on bus. Transfer to hotel in Reykjavik for your first night in Iceland. There should be a pack of documents concerning your journey for you at the hotel. (No meals included today)

Day 2
: Journey to the Southernmost Tip (B, D)
Breakfast at hotel. Tour pick up is between 8:00am and 9am. The guide will come into the hotel with a sign saying "Iceland Complete."  Also there is a motorcoach outside with the sign in the window “Iceland Complete Tour”. Head over the Hellishedi Plateau to the village of Hveragerdi, gateway to the Golden Circle Region. Take unforgettable photos at majestic Golden Falls and Great Geysir, Iceland's "Old Faithful." You will also have the option to visit the interesting Geysir Center (Arranged and paid for in Iceland) where you can learn how these marvels of nature operate. Continue along the south shore, stopping to visit Seiljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfall at majestic Skogarfoss Falls and perhaps hunt its a legendary treasure (not open until after Jun 23, 2009 due to bird nesting) Seabirds, including the popular puffin, nest in its cliffs and crevices. Other bird watching opportunities available on all tour dates. Don't forget your binoculars! Distance traveled: 146 miles. Overnight: Vik

Day 3: Black Sand and Glacial Lagoon (B, D)
Ahead lays a true natural oxymoron: a black sand desert and a massive glacier. Continue to the alpine setting of Skaftafell National Park. Drive in the shelter of glaciers close to Iceland's highest peak. (6,952 feet) Thrill on an optional boat tour in a glacial lagoon where icebergs, resplendent in shades of blues and greens, tower above you. Distance traveled: 180 miles. Overnight: Hofn area.

Day 4: The Southeast - Ancient Iceland (B, D)
Eastern Iceland- the nation's oldest region- contains magnificent rock formations which you'll marvel at as you head north. After heading over a mountain pass with spectacular views of Europe's largest glacier (weather permitting), the scenery changes to bare rock faces plunging into the sea of the East Fjords. Today you will also visit Petra’s Stone Collection, a unique display of minerals and stones from this part of Iceland, which has some of the most varied types of rocks in Europe. Distance traveled: 193 miles. Overnight: Egilsstadir

Day 5: Highland Desert and Volcanoes (B, D)
Ascend a vast highland desert plateau towards Dettifoss, Europe’s largest waterfall. Your destination is the world-famous Lake Myvatn National Park. Volcanic Myvatn is a primordial fairyland of sulfur slopes, boiling mud pools and the brilliantly colored Namaskard Pass. It is said that the trolls still reside here. You may not see them but you will see incredible volcanic features! Distance traveled: 137 miles. Overnight: Myvatn area

Day 6: Northern Brilliance (B)
Head west, stopping en route to visit Laufas, a 19th century farmhouse and rectory preserved by the National Museum of Iceland. Also visit Godafoss falls, nestled amid brilliant foliage and stern rock faces. Drive along the scenic gorge of a fjord to Akureyri. This town has some of the most beautiful wooden buildings in the country. Though small it is quite active with museums, gardens and art galleries. It has become known as the Capital of North Iceland for its many services and excellent harbor. Dinner on your own tonight. There are several notable restaurants in Akureyri, so you should enjoy deciding which one to try. Distance traveled: 143 miles. Overnight: Akureyri

Day 7: Mountains and Valleys (B, D)
Drive through majestic mountains and narrow passes that lead to Skagafjordur. This area is known for its excellent Icelandic horses. Enjoy a demonstration about their uniqueness. Head across Holtovorduheidi plateau to Borgarfjordur in the lovely Borgarfjordur region of West Iceland. Distance traveled: 255 miles. Overnight: Borgarnes area

Day 8: The Garden of Eden (B)
Start with a drive to Deildartunguhver, the world's most powerful churning hot springs. Stop to admire the "Lava Falls" before passing through scenic Kaldidalur Valley (weather permitting) to Thingvellir National Park, the old Parliament Site. (If Kaldidalur Road is closed, an alternate road is taken). Head to Reykjavik for dinner and overnight.Drive past the Nesjavellir geothermal area to Lake Þingvallavatn (Iceland’s largest lake) and Þingvellir National Park, site of the Parliament. Return to Reykjavik for your last night in Iceland. Distanced traveled: 177 miles. Overnight: Reykjavik (dinner not included)

Day 9
: Departure from Iceland (B)
Breakfast at hotel. Catch the Fly Bus to Keflavik International Airport for your morning or afternoon flight to North America. Complimentary soft drinks and in-seat entertainment system during flight. Meals, headsets and blankets available for purchase or provide your own.
