First enjoy the strength of the Icelandic Horse on your riding tour through the lava fields (1.5 - 2 hours riding) and then challenge yourself to a 2 hour walk up Mt. Helgafell near the Riding Center.

Helgafell, the guardian mountain of Hafnarfjordur, is an everyday hiking route for many Icelandic families.  Your group will drive to the water spring of Hafnarfjordur town and leave the car in the parking area.  Take a surreal walk through   moon-like landscapes to the mountain (about 15 - 20 minutes walk to reach mountain.)  Head up the mountain, taking  it at an easy pace with good stops in between to listen to information and stories about the mountain and the landscapes. On Helgafell's peak enjoy the view and write your name in the guest book before heading down again. (Total hiking is 1 1/2 to 2 hours)

Included: Riding tour, equipment for riding tour (helmet, boots, cold weather suits, rain wear), water bottles during hiking tour.

Wear: Hiking boots essential.  Wind and rainproof outer wear

Riding Level: Beginner (No previous riding experience needed)

Hiking Level: Easy to moderate.  Passengers  should be in reasonable shape.

 

Important:  Horseback riding not recommended for children 7 and under, pregnant women and people weighing over 243 pounds.

Please note that this tour will not pick up passengers at hotels outside of Reykjavik.
