Day 2:  Early morning arrival in Iceland.  On own transfer to  hotel in Reykjavik.  Guaranteed check in by 10am. (only guaranteed for passengers on Icelandair packages; normal check-in is 2pm) Rest of the day open for your own activities.

Day 3:  Morning on your own.  11:30am departure on from Reykjavik on tour.  Head through the scenic south coast of Iceland, dotted with farmlands, waterfalls and mountains. There will be a stop for lunch (not included)  The goal is a glacier.  Strap on crampons and take an ice pick for a guided walk on a glacier.   A safe and easy walk takes you through a wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses.   Afterwards, head to the scenic Skogfoss waterfall, site of legendary buried treasure.   Near Skogarfoss is the renowned Skogar Muesum, which you will visit. Located in a traditional Icelandic turf house, this museum shows how Icelanders lived in the old days, an ancient lifestyle that remained in Iceland into the mid-20th century.

As night falls, head for the charming Country Hotel Anna for a delicious traditional Icelandic dinner made with local ingredients.   Located on the site of a traditional Icelandic farm, Country Hotel Anna is named after the woman who grew up here:  Anna Jonsdottir.  She became a world traveler and adventurer in the early 20th century, writing popular books for Icelanders about her experiences.  An exhibit at the hotel commemorates her travels.

Afterwards, head out in the tour vehicle searching for glimpses of the elusive, beautiful northern lights.  The route changes based on best conditions for sightings.  Note-  northern lights are a natural phenomenon and weather dependent. (Best weather conditions are cold, clear nights)  northern lights sightings are not guaranteed.

Tour is about 11- 12 hours.  Return to Reykjavik around midnight.

Day 4:  Breakfast at hotel.  Be in the lobby by 8:30am for departure on Golden Circle and Fontana Tour.  Today enjoy the beauty of Iceland's most famous region of natural wonders and history.  You'll see Thingvellir National Park, site where 10th century  Icelandic Vikings founded what would become the world's oldest surviving Parliament.  It's also where the European and North American tectonic plates converge.  Stroll through the quirky Geysir geothermal area, where bubbling hot springs shoot up from the ground.  Nearby is the legendary Gullfoss (Golden Falls), a lovely dual-edged waterfall.   During the day,  the tour will make a stop for lunch (not included).

Then head to Laugarvatn, a small community set against a hot-spring fed lake.  The region's underground hot springs provide pollution-free heat and hot water to the residents. This is also the site of Fontana, a natural steam bath.  Spend time here, enjoying the healthy, soothing hot steam as it bubbles up from beneath the ground.  You can also relax in natural hot pools, enjoy a Finnish-style sauna, and even take a dip in the lake itself!  During your visit you'll have the chance to sample an Icelandic specialty:  hot bread baked in a geothermal underground "oven."Return to Reyijavik around 6pm.

Day 5:   Breakfast at hotel in your own.  Morning open for own activities.  On own transfer to airport for late afternoon departure to North America.
