Who are the Stopover Buddies?
The Stopover Buddies are Icelandair Group employees who are proud of their country and do interesting things in their spare time. They can be your travel partners in Iceland if you’re doing an Icelandair Stopover in early 2016.
What does the service cost?
Requesting a Buddy is included in your Stopover if you have booked one, and you don’t pay for his or her time. You will be expected to pay for your activities, food, and accommodation, as you would if you’d be travelling on your own.
Who can request a Stopover Buddy?
Anyone 18 years of age or over and going on an Icelandair Stopover can request a Stopover Buddy. Limited trips are on offer, so slots will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis.
When do I have to request a Stopover Buddy by?
Please place a request as soon as you book your Icelandair Stopover, and no later than ten days in advance, to stand the best chance of meeting a Buddy.
What’s the chance of getting a Buddy Trip?
As Buddy slots are filled on a first-come-first-served basis, your chance depends on how many other passengers request a similar trip to you on your preferred dates.
When will I find out if I’ve been allocated a Stopover Buddy?
After you’ve filled out the Buddy request form, we’ll get back to you within 72 hours to let you know the status of your Buddy.
When are the Stopover Buddies available?
Buddy trips will be scheduled between 2 February and 30 April 2016.
Is there a limit to the time I can spend on a trip with a Stopover Buddy?
Yes. Each Buddy trip will last up to one day.
Do Stopover Buddies have any guide training or experience?
As a rule, Stopover Buddies are not guides, but they’re passionate about their interests and can provide insider knowledge to enrich your trip.
What do I need to bring?
Usually, equipment for various tours and activities is your responsibility. However, you will work out all details with your Buddy if your request is approved. As a general note when travelling in Iceland in winter, you need proper outdoor gear like hiking boots, warm winter jackets and more. Layers are ideal, and make sure not to wear anything made of cotton nearest to your body. Wool is much better. Jeans just won’t cut it when walking across a glacier! Use your common sense, and if you’re unsure about something, ask your Buddy to advise you. Also, keep in mind that even if you anticipate travelling a lot by car, you still need to be prepared for any kind of weather, so we advise everyone to bring as much protective clothing as possible.
Can I bring my travel partners along on activities with a Stopover Buddy?
Yes, you can bring up to four people with you. To facilitate bookings that may be required, you should always let your Stopover Buddy know how many people you will be travelling with and their ages.
What happens if I miss my flight and can’t meet my Buddy at the arranged time?
This depends if you have arranged for your Buddy to meet you on the same day you arrive, as they can meet you at any point during your Stopover. If you have organised to meet them the day you arrive, then please do the following: If you miss your flight, you can ring our call centre at +354 50 50 100 and refer your flight number and the fact you have a Stopover Buddy arrangement. You can also send an email to email@example.com with the subject Stopover Buddy: Missed flight. Refer your flight number, and the Buddy you were supposed to meet and when. If you’ve been in touch with your Stopover Buddy in person, you should send them an email as well to let them know. Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that the same Buddy will be available if and when you arrive in Iceland, but we will work with you to find a suitable solution.
What happens if my flight is delayed and my Stopover Buddy isn’t available when I arrive?
If your flight is delayed and you have arranged to meet a Stopover Buddy directly when you land, we kindly ask you to ring our call centre at +354 50 50 100 and refer your flight number and the fact you have a Stopover Buddy arrangement. You should also send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and be in touch with your Buddy directly.
Is it possible to cancel a Stopover Buddy engagement?
Yes, it is possible to cancel. Cancellations shall be made no later than 7 days before your stopover and must be done in writing by sending an e-mail to email@example.com.
Will I need to sign a contract or any other form?
We may ask you to sign our Code of Conduct. This code is both intended for Stopover Buddies and passengers.
What is an Icelandair Stopover?
An Icelandair Stopover is when you stopover in Iceland on your way across the Atlantic for up to seven nights at no additional airfare.
