South Iceland is known for its ever-changing scenery including grassy lava fields, rolling farmland, volcanic mountains, glaciers, hot springs, and black sand beaches. The region's proximity to Reykjavik makes it a popular area for day tours, especially to the famous Golden Circle, but there is much more to this area, especially for those who take the time to enjoy it at a relaxing pace. On this short, partly-guided tour getaway, you'll have the chance to stopover at a local organic farm and sample their produce. You'll explore the Golden Circle to see what it's like to live among its natural beauty, visit the Icelandic Horse Park called Fakasel, plus take thrilling SuperJeep rides over a gorgeous black sand beach and through the volcanic impact zone of Eyjafjallajokull. You'll even enjoy the rare opportunity to indulge in a secluded hot-spring lagoon where you can float peacefully under a night sky. In addition, with this package you'll also have time to spend in Reykjavik, a city known for its vibrant culture, art scene, nightlife and geothermal public swimming pools.

This vacation package offers excellent value with the opportunity to see a side of South Iceland most visitors never encounter, including a special "slow tourism" insight of its relaxing atmosphere, lovely scenery and friendly culture. Plus, the opportunity to spend a night in the countryside lets you enjoy its tranquility and serene beauty. Icelanders know this, and it's no surprise the region has become a local wellness getaway spot for Icelanders.

Day 1 - Departure Day
Evening departure from North America.

Day 2 - Arrival Day
Early morning arrival in Iceland. We recommend booking Flybus Plus round-trip airport transfers for the quickest transportation to your hotel in Reykjavik. Another option for transfers might be a refreshing visit to the Blue Lagoon on your way into Reykjavik. Please note priority check-in from 10am is available for passengers that book this vacation package with arrivals in April and May. The rest of the day is at your leisure, with recommended add-on activities available to book here. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are not included on your arrival day, but Reykjavik has a fantastic variety of restaurants representing different budgets and cuisines.

Day 3 - Waterfalls, geysirs and hot spring lagoon
Enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet at your hotel where you'll be able to try Icelandic-made breakfast items, featuring hot and cold dishes. Please be in the hotel lobby no later than 9:00am with your luggage for the start of your two-day visit to South Iceland.

Your visit begins with a bus tour bringing you to the Golden Circle in the afternoon, a time period when there are fewer visitors on site. Enjoy the beauty of Thingvellir National Park, including the site where the North American and European continents converge at the Mid-Atlantic ridge, and where Iceland became a nation at the Viking founding of the Althing Parliament in the 10th century. You'll also visit the golden falls of Gullfoss, believed to be the most beautiful in Iceland. If the sun is out, you may even catch a glimpse of the fabled rainbow crowning the falls. Make sure to take some time to stroll along the paths so you can see the cascades from different angles. At the Geysir geothermal area, you can stroll the paths and view a variety of intriguing spouting hot springs, bubbling mud pots and steam vents. The most famous geyser is Strokkur, which erupts frequently and regularly.

During the day you'll visit the family horse ranch and dairy farm "Efsti-Dalur." The farm's name comes from its unique status as being the highest-altitude dairy farm in Iceland, famous for its delicious home-made dairy products (skyr, ice cream). At the farm's restaurant, savor a two-course lunch featuring the region's famous Arctic charr fish. A highlight of the restaurant is a viewing area where you can see the cows being milked. Vegetarian options at the restaurant are also available.

The journey continues to the farm village of Fludir. This region is famous for its locally-grown organic produce, including tomatoes, cucumbers and mushrooms, so part of the visit to the Fludir region includes a stop at Fridheimar, an organic farm that grows tomatoes in geothermal greenhouses. You’ll have the opportunity to meet the farmers, view the farm and sample some of the delicious produce.

South Iceland is also famous for its hot springs, one of which provides the water for the new "Secret Lagoon", a historic, secluded village swimming pool that has been converted into a wellness experience. Considered the oldest swimming pool in Iceland, the water comes from a nearby natural hot spring of course. Also nearby, a small geyser erupts every 5 minutes, spouting water up to 10 feet (3 meters high), visible from the lagoon. A soak in the lagoon at the end of a day while listening to the quiet sounds of nature is simply magical.

Overnight at Icelandair Hotel Fludir. Dinner is not included, but the hotel's restaurant offers many organic options, and there are other dining options in the village.

Day 4 -  Power of Nature
After a delicious breakfast at the hotel that features many local products, it's time to say goodbye to the region and continue exploring South Iceland. This time the tour vehicle switches from a tour bus to specially-equipped and comfortable off-road SuperJeeps, ideal for the terrain you'll be exploring. First head to Gigjokull, a glacial tongue that has drifted down from the Eyjafjallajokull crater, the famous volcano whose 2010 eruption affected international travel and impacted much of the landscape in this region. This volcano visit allows you to see where volcanic forces have twisted and carved new shapes in the terrain. The jeep will also drive across some unbridged rivers, a safe and yet thrilling part of off road travel. You'll also view two legendary waterfalls, Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss, before stopping at the Country Hotel Anna. Here you'll enjoy a two-course dinner featuring the hotel's famous Icelandic Meat Soup. Vegetarian options at the restaurant are also available.

After lunch, head out by Jeep to the seacoast where you'll see the power of nature at work with an exciting trek across black sand beaches while enormous waves thunder in the distance.

Next, head back towards Reykjavik with a stop at Fakasel Icelandic Horse Park where you'll have the chance to meet some Icelandic horses. This new facility is gaining a great reputation for the way it introduces people to Iceland's unique heritage breed of horse. Icelandic horses played a large role in the settlement and success of Iceland as a nation, and they are represented in much of the country's folklore.

The tour ends in Reykjavik for your overnight. Dinner is not included, but Reykjavik has many wonderful restaurants from which to choose from.

Day 5 - Farewell to Iceland
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, with the rest of your morning open for your own activities. Transfer on your own to Keflavik airport for your late afternoon departure to North America.
