Day 2 Early morning arrival in Iceland. Use the service information from your confirmation for the Flybus airport transfer to your hotel in Reykjavik. The rest of the day is open for your own activities. Perhaps you'll use your admission to the Soley Spa and relax in the soothing geothermal pool, hot tub and steam rooms. You can also take advantage of the hotel’s complimentary city bus tickets and visit Old Town Reykjavik (bus stop just outside hotel) to take in some of the capital's many restaurants, galleries and museums. For a great panorama view of the city, check out the Pearl building, just a short walk from the Natura hotel. You might also consider an evening northern lights tour, afternoon horseback riding, cooking classes or other activities. You can find ideas here.
Day 3 Start the morning with a Scandinavian buffet breakfast, included as part of your hotel stay, then transfer on your own to Reykjavik's domestic airport for your 45-minute morning flight on Air Iceland to Akureyri, the “Capital” of North Iceland. The airport is located about a five minute drive from the hotel, with a cab ride running about $20 (subject to change). Upon arrival at Akureyri domestic airport, you’ll be met by a guide who will drive you to your hotel for check-in, and where you'll receive a free admission to the nearby city geothermal pool, considered by many Icelanders to be one of the nation's finest. The hotel also offers a Happy Hour 2-for-1 special for package participants on selected drinks, as well as a ten percent discount on dinner at the Aurora Restaurant. Please note the restaurant discount does not apply to drinks during dinner.
The rest of your day is open to enjoy Akureyri, a town of charming buildings cradled within the magnificent Eyjafjordur Fjord. Though small in size, Akureyri is vibrant and lively, offering many museums, restaurants and pubs. The town's year-round botanical gardens are an interesting feature, as well as the spa-like geothermal swimming pool. In the evening, be sure to get to the hotel lobby no later than 10:00pm for your northern lights sightseeing tour. The quest for the elusive Aurora Borealis lights and its unbelievable displays of color, light and texture will take you to the mystical country or into the mountains, away from city lights and sounds. It’s like waking up in a fairy-tale full of mystery and magic. The exact route taken depends on that evening's weather and road conditions. Please note the northern lights are visible from September through April but can only be seen on a clear night. If northern lights sightings are not possible, another tour activity will be planned by the tour operator. These may include visits to historic sites in North Iceland where you will learn about Icelandic ghost stories. If a northern lights tour is cancelled due to weather, you can also opt to upgrade to another day tour for a small extra fee. Alternatives will be provided by the tour operator at the hotel desk.
Day 4 Head down for breakfast at your hotel, followed by the entire day which is open for your own activities. Perhaps you’ll visit some museums in Akureyri, try skiing in nearby Hlidarfall ski area, or you might book one of the optional tours available through the tour operator (bookable once you have in Iceland). These are excellent ways to experience the fun, adventure, history, and culture of North Iceland.
Day 5 Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, then transfer to Akureyri airport for your morning Air Iceland flight back to Reykjavik. Once you have arrived back in the capital, the transfer to Reykjavik Natura Hotel is on your own, followed by the rest of the day which is open for your own fun and activities in Reykjavik. Be sure to visit the hotel’s tour desk to set up transfers back to Keflavik airport the following day.
Day 6 After breakfast, your last morning is open for your own activities, followed by your transfer (remember to book on your own) to Keflavik airport for your late afternoon departure to North America. Extra nights: If you choose the package with three nights in Akureyri, that extra day will be open for your own activities. If you have added extra nights to your package, these extra days will be in Reykjavik after you visit Akureyri, and are also open for your own activities.
Note: The tour operator has the right to substitute hotels with similar quality hotels if conditions require it.
